The Origins of Jessica’s World
Hello Fellow Shifters!
Every story begins with some spark of inspiration, and Jessica’s Story began in the form of a dream. I am lucky enough to be one of those who not only has wild and vivid dreams, but who also remembers them upon waking. The wildest dreams are usually the ones that stick around and make me think “I need to expand on this.”
The dream in question was simple enough. I was Jessica. Even in the dream that was her name. The dream began with me running through a city with a group of people. Not all of them had faces and names; only Jessica and Wyatt stood out clearly. Then I was running through the hallway of an old hotel. I can still see the red and blue-green pattern of the carpet, and the dark wood designs on the wall. I fell down an elevator shaft that took me straight to the basement of the building. In the basement there were gurneys and faceless people in white coats. I found myself strapped down on a gurney and I felt a sharp pain in my arm. I heard someone saying that now I would be cured. I wouldn’t be able to shift anymore. Wyatt and the others from earlier in the dream rescued me from the basement and took me back up the elevator shaft.
The dream stuck with me and I mulled it over for days. The very basics of the Shifters world were buried in that dream. I just needed to dig a little deeper and find them. I began asking myself questions — who was Jessica? Why did the doctors capture her? Why were they in the basement? Each question led to another until I had the basic foundations of the world.
From dream to page, Jessica’s Story evolved quite organically and it’s been incredible watching it grow from that single night’s vision. Have you ever had a dream so vivid it stuck with you for days? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
Stay Wild!
